The Patriots have a chance to grab one of the top players with their first round draft pick!
It has been quite a struggle for the New England Patriots, once a storied franchise that won 6 Super Bowls during the Bill Belichick and Tom Brady era. However, ever since Brady’s departure from Foxborough, the Patriots have not been the same team and their fortunes have plummeted. Nevertheless, the rebuilding must continue and New England has made a strong move by adding former Texans receiver Stefon Diggs to help lift the offense.
Diggs’ addition to the squad will no doubt help second-year QB Drake Maye, but there is much more to do. The Patriots who play in the AFC East have the Bills, Dolphins, and Jets to contend with. Buffalo has been dominating the division in the recent past, but the Jets are also rebuilding and the Dolphins have their own questions to answer. Having said that, making the playoffs still seems in the distant future for New England at the moment, but a good draft may act as a much-needed catalyst.
New England has a total of 9 draft picks in 2025 with three of those coming in round 7. The Patriots will have one selection in each of the rounds 1,2, 4, and 5. In round 3 they have 2 selections but none in round 6. Their first-round pick at number 4 overall and second-round pick at number 38 overall are good spots for top-quality players.
| Picks | Round | Pick No. | Own / Via |
| 1 | 1 | 4 | Own |
| 2 | 2 | 38 | Own |
| 3 | 3 | 69 | Own |
| 4 | 3 | 77 | From Falcons |
| 5 | 4 | 106 | Own |
| 6 | 5 | 144 | Own |
| 7 | 7 | 217 | From Titans |
| 8 | 7 | 220 | Own |
| 9 | 7 | 238 | From Chargers |
The Patriots need help in several areas of the field but the biggest concern they need to address in the draft is the left tackle. The Patriots have added to their offensive line by bringing in a new right tackle and a center but the offensive line still needs help, especially at the most important position which is left tackle. There are some good offensive tackles at the top of the draft and with the Patriots selecting at number 4 overall, they should have the pick of the litter at their disposal.
Moreover, New England also needs to bolster its wide receiver room. After signing Stefon Diggs, New England has given quarterback Drake Maye some glimmer of hope, however, Diggs will be coming back from an ACL injury which could hamper his play, especially in the initial games of the season. Apart from Diggs, the Patriots have no real threat to help ease the pressure of Maye.
Another area in need of depth is the edge. The Patriots were dead last in sacks last season so this is a key area to focus on. This year’s draft class is supposedly a strong one for edge rushers so New England could look to grab a top player in the first couple of rounds. Sitting at number 4, they may even have the chance to snag Abdul Carter who is without a doubt one of the top players in this draft.
nfl I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
