The Las Vegas Raiders’ struggles continue to mount year after year. The last time the Raiders made it to the Super Bowl was in the 2002 NFL season where they ended up losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since then, in the past 22 seasons, the Raiders have only two postseason appearances to their name with the most recent one coming in 2021.

In spite of the odd couple of seasons where Vegas has managed to make the playoffs, the team has failed miserably at being a consistent threat. Of late, it has been a mixture of coaching issues and quality at quarterback that has hampered the team’s rise. With the Chargers and Broncos making quite the headway as they look to challenge the Chiefs in the AFC West, the Raiders still look like a distant and lonely team within the division.

However, the 2025 season could be a start to a new beginning as LA has brought in former Super Bowl-winning head coach Pete Carroll in a bid to steer the team toward success. Despite the future of the franchise under center still undecided, the Raiders have extended their new signal caller Geno Smith for two more years and if Carroll can get the best out of his new team, perhaps LA could find themselves back in postseason contention sooner rather than later.

What Are the Raiders’ Draft Picks in 2025?

The Las Vegas Raiders have a total of 9 picks from their seven rounds. The Raiders are one of the few teams that have at least one pick in all seven rounds, however in round 6 they have 3 selections in all. Their first-round pick stands at number 6 overall, so LA should definitely be able to draft one of the top prospects in this year’s draft class.

Positional Needs for the Raiders

As far as the needs for the Raiders go, they can basically draft anyone and justify the selection. While the future under center may be unclear, the extension of Geno Smith seems to suggest that LA is not in favor of the quarterbacks on offer at this year’s draft.

However, Smith needs more help in the receiving room as outside of Jakobi Myers, they don’t possess much threat. Of course, Brock Bowers is a phenomenal pass-catching tight end but one more solid receiver is a need for sure. As is the running back position which after losing Josh Jacobs last season was one of the worst in the league. Ashton Jeanty has been heavily linked with the Raiders, but drafting him at number 6 overall may not be the best option.

As for their defense, outside defensive end, almost all positions could do with an upgrade. Having said that, the cornerback and linebacker positions are probably the ones to focus on initially as both areas need significant help.
