The first round of the 2025 Italian Open gets underway today, and we have former world number one Victoria Azarenka in action against the Colombian Camila Osorio. Currently ranked 54 and 55 in the world respectively, this should be an interesting matchup between the two.

Belarusian Azarenka has had a difficult season thus far and hasn’t managed to go far in any of the tournaments she has played in. Once a force to reckon with on the WTA tour, Azarenka has struggled mightily this year with a losing 4-7 year-to-date record thus far.

Osorio, a much younger and upcoming player, has had her fair share of disappointments, but did have a quarterfinal appearance at the Singapore Tennis Open in January, and was the winner of the Copa Colsanitas event held in Colombia earlier this year.

Neither player in this matchup seems to have much of an edge over the other, but the clay surface should favor the Colombian, even though Azarenka is a dominant player on the surface as well. Having said that, the younger Osorio should be able to get over the line, especially if she can tire out the Belarusian.
