2025 WTA Italian Open in Rome: A Look at the Top 4 Seeds and Their Paths to the Final

Devavrat Kulkarni

Can Iga Swiatek get back to her best as she looks to defend her Rome title?

The 2025 Italian Open is now underway with the qualifier rounds currently in progress. The Rome Masters is the sixth masters 1000 tournament on the WTA calendar and the second and last on clay. With the French Open looming near the end of the month, the Internazionali BNL d’Italia (Italian Open) will provide players with the final chance to gear up for the year’s second Grand Slam.

This year’s Italian Open will feature stars such as Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, Mirra Andreeva, and many more. Swiatek is the reigning champion of the Italian clay, having defeated Sabalenka comfortably in straight sets last year. However, the Pole has been struggling this year, so it will be interesting to see how she performs this time around.

Swiatek has been the best player here for the past few years, as she has won the tournament three times in the last 4 years with titles in 2021, 2022, and 2024. The current 11th seed, Elena Rybakina, won the 2023 edition. As preparations are in full swing for the final tune-up event ahead of Roland Garros, let us take a look at how the draw is projected for the top 4 seeds at this year’s Italian Open.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
