Untamable Jannik Sinner Beats Alex de Minaur to Charge Into Third Consecutive Final at Nitto ATP Finals 2025

Sankalp Harikrishnan

Italian will contend for a second consecutive title in Turin.

World No. 2 Jannik Sinner proved why he is called the ruler of indoor hard courts on Saturday. The 24-year-old Italian remained steadfast to obstruct the advancement of an inspired Alex de Minaur in the semifinal of the Nitto ATP Finals 2025. While the Australian started the match in convincing manner, Sinner shifted gears as the match progressed and held on for a 7-5 6-2 win in 1 hour and 50 minutes.

The home favorite has now secured 30 consecutive wins on indoor hard courts – becoming the youngest player since Lleyton Hewitt in 2004 to reach three finals in a row at the season-ending championships. Sinner did not drop his serve or a single set throughout the round robin stage, and kept up his perfect record against de Minaur. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old will have plenty of positive takeaways despite leaving with a 1-3 record at Turin in 2025.

With five trophies to his name this year, the No. 2 seed has dominated proceedings alongside Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard could be Sinner’s opponent in the summit clash on Sunday – he is set to take on Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second semifinal. On the other hand, the Demon finishes his campaign with 56 wins and 24 losses – completing his first year of crossing the half century mark in terms of victories.

Jannik Sinner Earns Milestone Win Against Alex de Minaur in Turin

The partisan crowd at Inalpi Arena would have had their hearts in their mouths, as Sinner fell to 0-40 in the opening game. But as both players came through tough service games after saving break points, they began producing the level that fans expect from them. Having saved seven break points through the set, courtesy some flat baseline attacks and vicious slices, de Minaur was broken in the eleventh game. A strong flurry of winners handed Sinner the opening set 7-5.

As 13,000 people stood up and applauded his resilience, the four-time Grand Slam champion eased into his beast mode. He drained out every ounce of energy left in de Minaur, and raced ahead to a 4-0 advantage in the second set. From there, he focused on his own serve to complete the formalities. Sinner is now just the second man after Novak Djokovic (2018) to reach the ATP Finals final without dropping serve.

“I’m very happy, it’s the last event of the year. Great to finish in this way,” Sinner stated. “It was a very tough match, especially the beginning of the first set. I felt like he was serving great – very precise. In the second set, I managed to break very early. Then my level raised and I tried to be more aggressive which worked very well.”

Sinner will face either Alcaraz or Auger-Aliassime in front of his home fans on Sunday evening.
