UFC News – Dana White Hints At A Possible Rematch For Suga Sean O’Malley!

Eric Divakaran

Sean O’Malley is one of the biggest stars in UFC history and most definitely in the bantamweight division. His record definitely backs up his serious skills as O’Malley is 18-2-0 so far in his MMA career. Out of his 18 wins, 12 wins came via knockouts. He’s got a wicked right hand and a flair for finishing fights fast, like the 51-second TKO against Aljamain Sterling in UFC 292 to win the belt for the first time in his career.

O’Malley ranks first in significant strikes accuracy with 61.5%, third in strikes landed per minute with 6.71, and first in striking differential. While he is a great fighter, there’s still a long way to go for him. After winning the title against Sterling, Sean defended his title, once, successfully going against Marlon Vera.

However, his reign as a champion was short lived, as he lost against Merab Dvalishvili in the following title defense fight at UFC 306. The fight was as one sided as it gets as Merab destroyed O’Malley and exposed his lack of ground defense and control. Merab had 6 takedowns and O’Malley just did not have any answer for the Georgian.

O’Malley may fight Merab Dvalishvili again according to UFC President Dana White

In a recent interview, Dana White hinted at a possible rematch between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili. When a reporter asked White about who O’Malley could potentially fight next, and if it was going to be Dvalishvili again, he replied “They (Merab and Sean) wanna fight each other. I think people want to see it.”

Should Merab Dvalishvili fight Sean O’Malley again?

To keep it simple, no, we do not think that a rematch between the two should happen. Many fans, including us, want Petr Yan to fight Merab next. Sean O’Malley was no match for the Georgian in their first go round and it could possibly be the same again. Also, Sean has not matched up against any fighter since his defeat and it would be unfair for Petr Yan. Yan is ranked 2nd in the UFC Bantamweight division and should be next in line to contend for the title.

Dvalishvili has already defended his title once. Since he’s defeated both O’Malley and Nurmagomedov, it is only right that Petr Yan also gets a chance to compete for the title.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
