Zaid Quraishi

Get to know the head to head record of the upcoming main event fight at UFC London Leon Edwards vs. Sean Brady!

UFC fans are buzzing with excitement as London prepares to host one of the most anticipated welterweight clashes of the year. On March 22, 2025, the O2 Arena will witness former champion Leon Edwards take on the rising star Sean Brady in what promises to be a thrilling main event at UFC London. This matchup wasn’t originally on the cards, with Jack Della Maddalena initially slated to face Edwards. He was pulled and rescheduled for another bout, opening the door for Brady to step in.

For British fight fans, this event marks a significant moment as Edwards returns to compete on home soil following his championship loss to Belal Muhammad last summer. The Birmingham-based fighter is hungry to begin his journey back to the title. Meanwhile, Brady sees this as his golden opportunity to defeat a former champion and potentially insert himself into the title conversation. Let us take a look at their MMA journey, record and the things they have accomplished.

Leon Edwards’ MMA Journey

Leon Edwards has traveled a long and winding road in his MMA career that began back in 2010 as an amateur. The Jamaica-born, UK-raised fighter cut his teeth in regional promotions like Fight UK MMA, where he quickly established himself as a promising talent despite an early disqualification loss to Delroy McDowell. His skills continued to develop as he moved through the British circuit. He eventually landed in BAMMA where he captured the welterweight championship and defended it successfully before catching the UFC’s attention.

Edwards’ UFC career started with a split decision loss to Claudio Silva in 2014, but he quickly rebounded with a spectacular 8-second knockout of Seth Baczynski that earned him a Performance of the Night bonus. This began a remarkable run for ‘Rocky,’ though it included a 2015 defeat to Kamaru Usman that would later become a crucial chapter in his story.

After COVID-19 disruptions and a no-contest against Belal Muhammad due to an eye poke, Edwards secured a signature win over Nate Diaz before earning his title shot. In one of the most dramatic moments in UFC history, Edwards knocked out Usman with a head kick in the fifth round of their championship fight at UFC 278 after being down on the scorecards, claiming the welterweight title in spectacular fashion.

He successfully defended his belt against Usman in their trilogy bout and then against Colby Covington before finally losing the championship to Belal Muhammad in July 2024, ending his nine-year unbeaten streak.

Sean Brady’s MMA Journey

Sean Brady has carved out an impressive path in the welterweight division. He built his reputation as one of the division’s most technically sound grapplers. Before joining the UFC, Brady dominated the Cage Fury Fighting Championship, where he compiled a perfect 10-0 record and captured their welterweight title with a submission victory. His subsequent title defense against Taj Abdul-Hakim via fourth-round knockout demonstrated his well-rounded skill set and caught the attention of UFC matchmakers.

Brady’s UFC career began in October 2019 with a unanimous decision win over veteran Court McGee. He continued his winning ways with back-to-back decision victories over Ismail Naurdiev and Christian Aguilera, with the latter earning him a Performance of the Night bonus. Brady’s grappling prowess was on full display when he submitted Jake Matthews at UFC 259, further cementing his status as a rising contender.

His undefeated streak came to an end against Belal Muhammad in October 2022. He suffered a TKO loss in the second round. However, Brady has shown tremendous resilience, bouncing back with a submission victory over Kelvin Gastelum that earned him another Performance of the Night bonus and recently defeating Gilbert Burns in a five-round main event last September.
