UFC 319 Heats Up- Du Plessis and Chimaev’s Social Media War Continues

Eric Divakaran

The UFC is never fully quiet, and the build up to UFC 319, which will happen on August 16, 2025, at the United Center, in Chicago, is proving that yet again. The current middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis will defend his title against Khamzat Chimaev, which is a fight that many UFC fighters want to see. A recent exchange on social media has turned up the heat even more, which started with some emojis and ended up with sharp and explicit insults, that has the UFC community absolutely excited for what is to come next.

These back and forth insults are not anything new between the two fighters. Chimaev time and time again, likes to poke at his competition as we have seen him do in the past. Whereas, the champ is one of the best trash talkers we’ve ever seen, and at the same time Du Plessis is also somebody that can absolutely destroy his opponent inside the octagon. Prior to the recent exchange, there was a rumor going around that Du Plessis was injured and may not fight against Borz for the upcoming title fight. This led to Chimaev calling out Du Plessis saying, “This guy biggest bullsh*t.” Du Plessis quickly fired back to Chimaev’s post on X, and his tweet said, “Let’s take a look at the last +-2.5years and tell me who’s bullshit,” implying that Chimaev cancelled three of his fights earlier in his career.

However, now there is another post that the two fighters have exchanged some insults in. Let’s find out more.

Social Media Clash Between Chimaev and Du Plessis

The latest drama kicked off when Khamzat Chimaev posted a photo of a fighter with a UFC belt, meaning to represent Du Plessis and his team. Chimaev captioned the photo with five donut emojis and a laughing emoji. Many saw this as Chimaev calling Du Plessis and his crew soft or overweight , which was a bold jab at the champ. If you know Du Plessis, as we know very well, he did not hold back as he replied, “O sh*t would get you but there’s no inbred emoji,” hitting Chimaev with a harsh insult about his heritage. When a fan added, “At least he knows who his father is,” Du Plessis fired back, “Yes his older brother probably,” doubling down on his previous take.

This thread is absolutely hilarious and Du Plessis has continued to be the Troll God on the internet. While Chimaev fans were absolutely furious at the middleweight champ, DDP’s fans were thrilled to see the fiery comebacks, as we have seen him do previously against other fighters as well.

The clash has further added fuel to UFC 319, making the fight feel personal in many ways. Chimaev may not have expected such a fierce response, but it’s clear that this beef is just getting started. With some more months to go, we may continue to get a lot of exchanges between the two on social media, before the fight actually comes around.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
