Triple-Slam Rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner Rewrite Open Era Records as Potential 2025 ATP Finals Clash Hovers in Turin

Rudra Dubey

Sincaraz record-setting three-Slam season sets the stage for another possible Turin clash.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have formally pushed their rivalry into the sport’s record books. In 2025, they met at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open, becoming the first pair in the Open Era to face each other at three Grand Slams in a single season. They have also split the last eight majors between them, and their level is widely regarded by players and analysts as distinct from the rest of the field.

With both now through to the semifinals in Turin, the ATP Finals could deliver a fourth meeting this season at a major stage and a sixth overall in 2025, placing this rivalry among the most remarkable single-year storylines the sport has produced. Plus, a new Open Era record of squaring off at three Slams and the ATP Finals as well.

A Rivalry Spanning Three Surfaces, One Season

The ‘Sincaraz’ 2025 season reads like a duel told across continents and surfaces. At Roland Garros, Alcaraz produced a five-set comeback to defeat Sinner 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6, surviving three championship points in what became the longest French Open final of the Open Era (nearly six hours). Sinner struck back on grass, outplaying the Spaniard 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to become the first Italian man to win Wimbledon. The pendulum swung again in New York, where Alcaraz prevailed 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to reclaim the world No. 1 ranking and collect his sixth major.

Each clash carried more than just a trophy; it symbolized a passing torch between generations, with two players rising as equals, shaping an age defined by their contrast. Alcaraz’s explosive athleticism and fearless improvisation collided with Sinner’s precision and calm aggression, creating one of the fiercest rivalries ever.

Their meetings this season, five in total including Rome and Cincinnati, have set a rhythm of inevitability. Every major moment seems to orbit around the other, and Turin now feels like the natural extension of that cycle.

Turin Beckons Another Chapter

At the 2025 ATP Finals, top seed Alcaraz faces Felix Auger-Aliassime, while second seed Sinner meets Alex de Minaur. Should both prevail, they would collide once again, marking a fourth meeting on a major stage this year and a sixth overall in 2025. It would also extend their record-breaking season into another layer of Open Era history, making them the first pair to meet in all three Slams and the year-end championship in the same season.

No matter what unfolds in Turin, 2025 will be remembered as the year Alcaraz and Sinner redefined modern rivalry. Three Slam finals, one year-end championship, back-and-forth world No. 1 position, and a shared legacy still being written.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
