Tottenham Suffer Huge Injury Blow Ahead of Europa League Final Against Manchester United

Abhinav Goel

The pressure is mounting on Spurs to end their 17-year trophy drought and losing a key player at such a decisive moment will be a huge blow.

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Dejan Kulusevski will miss the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United. The influential winger underwent surgery on a knee injury sustained during their recent Premier League clash with Crystal Palace. The Swedish international was forced off in the 19th minute of Sunday’s 2-0 defeat and has since been diagnosed with a right patella injury.

In an official club statement, Spurs said, “Following further specialist consultation, the midfielder has undergone surgery today (Wednesday) and will commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff immediately.”

Kulusevski’s Impressive Season for Spurs

The 25-year-old has been a vital figure for Tottenham this season, recording 10 goals and 11 assists across 50 appearances in all competitions. His absence for the final in Bilbao is a crushing blow for manager Ange Postecoglou, especially given Kulusevski’s notable performances against United earlier in the season – including a goal at Old Trafford in September and another one in the 4-3 League Cup quarter-final triumph.

Kulusevski joins an already growing injury list for Spurs, with attacking midfielder James Maddison (knee) and Lucas Bergvall (ankle) also ruled out of the European final. The final presents a crucial opportunity for both Tottenham and Manchester United, who have endured dismal Premier League campaigns. Spurs sit 17th in the table, while United are in the 16th position. The Europa League final in Bilbao offers a chance at salvation for both teams.

Tottenham’s last major trophy came in 2008, when they lifted the League Cup. The pressure is mounting on Spurs to end their 17-year silverware drought, and losing a key player like Kulusevski at such a decisive moment will be a huge blow. Tottenham will take on Manchester United in the Europa League final on 21 May.
