‘Only Person To Beat You at the US Open This Year’ – Tennis Star Takes a Dig at US Open 2025 Champion Carlos Alcaraz in a Light-Hearted Social Media Post

American star’s playful post adds humor to Alcaraz’s 2025 US Open triumph.

Carlos Alcaraz etched his name deeper into tennis history on Sunday by defeating rival Jannik Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to capture his second US Open title and sixth Grand Slam overall. The triumph also lifted him back to world No. 1, reclaiming the top spot from Sinner. But amid the celebrations, Jessica Pegula added a humorous twist on Instagram, reposting a photo of Alcaraz with his trophy and writing, “Congrats @carlitosalcarazz too bad I was the only person to beat you at the @usopen this year.”

Pegula’s Comment and Alcaraz’s Historic Run

Pegula’s playful comment referred to the reimagined US Open mixed doubles event, which brought together star singles players in a fresh all-star format. Teaming with Jack Draper, Pegula managed to hand Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu a 4-2, 4-2 defeat in the opening round.

Although Pegula and Draper’s run ended in the semifinals against Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud, the American’s lighthearted reminder of her lone win over the champion quickly drew smiles from fans. Her own singles campaign was impressive as well, advancing to the semifinals before falling to Aryna Sabalenka in a repeat of their 2024 final.

Alcaraz, meanwhile, was at his dominant best throughout the fortnight, conceding just one set, the final’s second against Sinner. With his sixth major, the Spaniard became the youngest man in the Open Era to achieve that milestone, underlining his growing stranglehold on the sport.

Tributes poured in from across the tennis world. Stan Wawrinka chimed in with “Congrats beast,” while Alex de Minaur added, “Congratulations Charly!” on Alcaraz’s celebratory Instagram post. The champion, however, kept his focus on those closest to him. “To my team and family, I am lucky to have you guys,” he said. “Honored to be honest. The hard work you do to make me even better. Not only in the professional part, but also the personal part as well. I am really proud about the people I have around. Thank you very much.”

Every achievement I have is because of you.” He added, “This one is also yours. My brother, uncle, father, mother, my little brothers are at home watching as well. The support I’m receiving from you is great. Thank you very much.”

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
