Fritz was the runner-up in Tokyo last week.
Hoping for a successful turnaround after his runner-up finish in Tokyo, Taylor Fritz is back at the 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters. The No. 5 seed is set to engage in a heated battle against Fabian Marozsan of Hungary in the Round of 64. Marozsan defeated Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka in the opening round in order to reach this stage. While Fritz is the firm favorite on paper, let’s take a look at all the records and betting odds (via BetMGM) before you make your predictions for this result in China.
The last time these two players faced off, Taylor Fritz suffered a minor scare. The American dropped the opener in the 2024 Australian Open third round, before breathing a sigh of relief in four sets. After a challenging first few months, the World No. 5 was rewarded for his hard work with two titles on grass. Fritz also reached the Wimbledon semifinals, US Open quarterfinals, and made deep runs at several other hard court events. When he announced himself by leading Team World to Laver Cup 2025 glory, the rest of the tour was forced to stand up and take notice.
“He’s the best player in the world for a reason and he’s also a great guy.” 🫶

While Fritz has a success rate of 73% this year, Fabian Marozsan has not been as fortunate. Yet, he is battling to re-enter the Top-50 this week in Shanghai. Although the Hungarian has reached the semifinal stage in Munich and quarterfinals in Hong Kong and Beijing, he has been unable to convert any of them into a championship run. The 25-year-old has been ranked as high as No. 36 in the world in the past – which is why his 23-23 record coming into this tournament is shocking. Nonetheless, Marozsan wins 83% of his service games on hard courts.

Taylor Fritz leads the head-to-head against Fabian Marozsan by 1-0. He beat the Hungarian at the 2024 Australian Open in four sets.

The American has dominated hard court service games this year, winning 80% points on first serve and 90% service games. He has also built a strong change-up – while the cross-court attacks were his go to shots during baseline exchanges, Fritz has developed a vicious down the line variation on both wings. If Marozsan can take any learning from Alcaraz’s rout of the World No. 4, it is to slow down the game and offer Fritz minimal pace to work with. Marozsan must put in as many first serves as possible, and bring his opponent forward with some accurate drop shots.
Prediction: Taylor Fritz in straight sets.
