Winner to face Djokovic or Struff in the QFs.
Determined to make history on home soil, World No. 4 Taylor Fritz aims to land a knockout blow vs Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic in Round-4 of the 2025 US Open. The American will be coming up against his first seeded opponent of the tournament on Sunday, and a win could guarantee him a potential match-up against Novak Djokovic. With the help of BetMGM, we bring to you the preview, predictions and odds for this clash.
It has been a mixed year at the Grand Slams for World No. 4 Taylor Fritz. The 27-year-old lost in the Round of 32 at the Australian Open, before being humbled in his Roland Garros opener. However, Fritz made a roaring comeback during the grass court season. After picking up two titles at Stuttgart and Eastbourne, he went on to reach the Wimbledon semifinals. During the North American hard court swing, he made the final four in Toronto and the last eight at Washington DC. This leaves Fritz with a magnificent 41-15 record in 2025 – including wins over Nava, Harris and Kym at Flushing Meadows.

On the other side of the net, Tomas Machac won his first career trophy at this year’s Mexican Open in Acapulco. Barring a quarterfinal in Halle, it has been a howler of a campaign for the 24-year-old since then. Coming into the US Open, Machac was on a three-match losing streak. But his dominant wins over Nardi, Fonseca and Blanchet have given the 21st seed a newfound sense of confidence and assurance on court. When it comes to hard court tournaments in 2025, Machac has won 83% service games and 51% return points.

Even though Fritz is reliant on a strong first serve and second shot, what makes him such a tough opponent is the fact that he can still engage in long baseline duels. He knows how to remain potent on serve, whilst digging in during return games and draining his opposition physically and mentally. Machac strikes a heavy ball, and his change of direction will make it difficult for Fritz to dictate play. While we do think this match could go the distance, the home hero is still the favourite.
