Su-wei Hsieh & Jelena Ostapenko’s WTA Doubles Revenge Highlights Jannik Sinner’s Record-Breaking Paris Masters 2025 Brilliance

Doubles drama meets singles brilliance as Riyadh and Paris deliver statement wins.

Su-Wei Hsieh and Jelena Ostapenko stayed unbeaten at the 2025 WTA Finals in Riyadh with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over top seeds Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini. The doubles duo took command of the Martina Navratilova Group with their second straight win. Just a day earlier, over in Paris, Jannik Sinner capped off a flawless week by winning the Paris Masters and reclaiming the world No. 1 ranking from Carlos Alcaraz and his fifth title of the season. This established his place atop the men’s game following a dominant hard-court campaign. Let’s explore both below.

Hsieh and Ostapenko’s Redemption in Riyadh

After a comeback win in their opener, No. 6 seeds Hsieh and Ostapenko were in complete control from the start against Errani and Paolini. The Australian Open and Wimbledon finalists stormed through the first eight points to take a 3-0 lead, with Hsieh’s sharp returns and trademark angles setting the tone. Ostapenko added her signature aggression, executing drive volleys from behind the service line and mixing in deft slices to disrupt the Italians’ rhythm.

Errani and Paolini, who had crushed them 6-4, 6-0 in the Beijing semifinals a month earlier, struggled to find their usual spark. Though Errani briefly rallied at the net in the second set, Ostapenko responded with clutch shot-making, saving two game points at 40-15 with a backhand volley and an angled return, before Hsieh sealed the victory.

“I feel like Su-Wei was playing really well today,” Ostapenko said afterward. “Me, it was so-so, but it was OK – it was a tough match; they are great players. We felt we had to play very aggressive all the time to keep them under pressure. There were so many games we lost at deuce, but we tried to be calm and stay positive.”

With the win, the pair improved to 2-0 and will advance as group winners if Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens defeat Asia Muhammad and Demi Schuurs later on Day 3.

Sinner’s Paris Triumph Caps a Defining Season

Across the ATP circuit, Jannik Sinner continued his remarkable rise by defeating Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6(4) to win the Paris Masters and reclaim the world No. 1 ranking. The Italian’s victory extended his indoor winning streak to 26 matches and marked the first time since 2023 that a player won a Masters 1000 event without dropping a set.

Sinner’s efficiency was historic. As he conceded just 29 games throughout the tournament, the fewest since the Paris Masters switched to hard courts in 2007. He also became only the fifth man since 1990, after Michael Chang, Andy Roddick, Andy Murray, and Daniil Medvedev, to capture all five of his Masters 1000 titles on hard courts.

For both Sinner and the Hsieh-Ostapenko duo, the weekend underscored a shared theme with resilience rewarded. Whether through redemption in Riyadh or dominance in Paris, each proved why they remain at the forefront of world tennis.

But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
