Against the Colts this Sunday, on a route, Diggs stopped immediately while running and grabbed his knee. This non-contact knee injury was a harbinger of things to come.
Today, head coach DeMeco Ryans announced the bad news during a press conference :
“Unfortunately, he tore his ACL,” head coach DeMeco Ryans said. “He’ll be out for the year. It really hurts our team to hear that news.”
This offseason, the Texans have traded the receiver from the Buffalo Bills in order to give more firepower to CJ Stroud after his excellent rookie season.
Pairing Diggs with Nico Collins and Tank Dell made the Texans as one of the most promising offense entering the 2024 season. With such a trio, opponents defenses had some trouble controlling all of them.
CJ Stroud and DeMeco Ryans surely are eager to see Nico Collins coming back from his injury on Nov. 10 to not let Tank Dell alone on the offensive side of the ball.
This is clearly a big setback for tis team, standing at 6-2 and with great Super Bowl aspiration. The Texans started the 2024 NFL Season as one of the true contenders in the AFC.
The trade deadline is approaching and Texans’ strategy might have evolved with this really bad news. With some big names like Cooper Kupp still mentioned to be traded, the Texans might have the idea to go on the market for a receiver on Nov. 5.
Stefon Diggs had 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns in the first eight games with the Texans. He is set to be free agent this offseason.
The Texans will take on the New York Jets for Week 9 Thursday Night Football at 8:20 PM ET.
