Steelers Get Massive Boost With DK Metcalf Trade, but the Quarterback Question Still Lingers!

The Pittsburgh Steelers have just pulled off a massive trade by acquiring DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks. If all goes according to plan, the Steelers could once again challenge the AFC North, one of the toughest divisions in the league. While we still await the confirmation on who will be under center for Pittsburgh in 2025, one thing is for sure, the said player will have a dominant one-two in the receiving room.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks, who are currently in the process of a rebuild, have received a second round pick from Pittsburgh in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft as compensation. Pittsburgh was due to pick at number 52 in the second round, which will now be the Seahawks’ third selection just two spots below their own second-rounder at pick number 50. The two teams will also be swapping picks in the sixth and seventh rounds as per NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

DK Metcalf’s Contract Extension

Metcalf was not only traded to the Steelers, but he also landed a nice extension in the process. According to Schefter, the Steelers have signed their new wideout for a $150 million extension over a period of 5 years. That works out to an average annual salary of $30 million.

Metcalf is currently heading into the final season of his previous deal, which he signed back in 2022 with the Seahawks, which was a 3-year deal worth $72 million on average. Metcalf is due to earn $18 million in base salary for the upcoming season.

Questions for Steelers Going Forward

Even with this blockbuster trade that Pittsburgh has pulled off, there are still two very important questions that beg to be answered. First and foremost, the biggest issue at hand the Steelers are facing is their quarterback situation. As of now, both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields stand as free agents and have the possibility to sign with any other team. The Steelers do not have a true number quarterback and that is the biggest worry going forward.

Second of all, while the pairing of Metcalf and George Pickens in the receiver room looks like a deadly combo, and a dream for the quarterback, this could lead to issues between the two as they both vie for more targets heading their way. The Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin will do well to maintain peace within the locker room as both players are known to have temper management problems.
