The 63-year-old manager has also called up Real Madrid’s Raul Ascencio for the first time. In the surprising events. De la Fuente praised Ascencio, stating:

“Raúl has been having a fantastic season. Some players progress quickly, and I’ve always been in favour of giving young players a chance.”

He also acknowledged the difficulty in selecting the squad due to the high level of Spanish football, mentioning: “There are many great footballers who could have been included. This is a testament to the high level of Spanish football.” Barcelona’s Gavi was skipped from the squad for possible fitness reasons. The 20-year-old made a return after a 14-month absence.
