Netherlands vs Spain Preview

The two sides that met in the 2010 FIFA World Cup final will be renewing their rivalry in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals as Group A4 toppers will meet the side that finished in second place in Group A3.

Netherlands

The Orange struggled to cope up in a relatively easy group as they needed a big win against Hungary on Matchday 5 to secure their qualification to the quarter-final stage. Head coach Ronald Koeman would be under the pump to deliver a big result as his side’s performances have dropped since making it to the semi-final of the UEFA European Championships 2024.

Star right-back Denzel Dumfries has pulled out of the squad after the Inter defender picked up an injury in the weekend fixture against Atalanta and will be replaced by Ajax defender Youri Baas. Frenkie de Jong has joined the Dutch squad but didn’t train due to illness forcing Koeman to call up Mats Weiffer as cover for the Barcelona midfielder.

Spain

After a 0-0 draw with Serbia that kicked La Roja’s campaign off on a sober note, the Spaniards won five matches on the bounce to top the group that consisted of Denmark, Switzerland, and Serbia.

Barcelona confirmed that young midfielder Marc Casado and experienced defender Inigo Martinez have been ruled out of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals as the midfielder enjoying a breakout season has almost been ruled out for the rest of the season with a ligament injury while Martinez should be back within 2-3 weeks. Head coach Luis da la Fuente has called up Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen to replace Martinez as the 19-year old earns his first call-up to the senior squad.

Netherlands vs Spain Under/Over Predictions

The Playoffs aim to facilitate the safest bets for the game. Have a look at the predictions for the game below.

Total goals Over 2.5 @ -103 (MGM Bet): Both sides will miss their defenders as it is yet to be seen how their replacements will turn out and forwards will be licking their lips in hopes of starting the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League knockouts on a positive note.

Netherlands vs Spain Player Picks

Justin Kluivert (To Score a Goal @ +440 as per MGM Bet): Koeman likes to start Memphis Depay and Cody Gakpo up front but the duo look unsharp to face a well-drilled Spanish side and the in-form Justin Kluivert could be the ideal solution for the former Everton manager.

The 25-year old has scored 12 goals and provided 6 assists helping Bournemouth push for Europe for the first time in the club’s history and the former Ajax and Roma player could turn things around for the Oranje.

Netherlands vs Spain Match Prediction

Spain is the front-runner to bag a semi-final spot but Koeman’s Dutch side cannot be discounted as they have proven multiple times in the last couple of years.

Our Final Prediction: A 2-2 draw is the most likely outcome from the battle of two of the top sides in Europe.
