Sergio Perez reveals Red Bull Racing regret breaking his contract!
Sergio Perez is no longer racing in Formula 1. The “Mexican Minister of Defense” found himself without a contract after few disappointing seasons with Red Bull Racing. However, Perez’s name is still hot topic in the Formula 1 community. He is leading the pack as a potential driver for Cadillac F1’s 2026 aspirations. There were multiple rumors about the announcement of his return during the Miami Grand Prix.
Sergio Perez’s departure from Red Bull Racing was a major fallout for the Formula 1 paddock. His successors at Red Bull are hardly able to catch up to Verstappen. They are struggling rather worse than Sergio Perez when it comes to performing with the second Red Bull car. Checo doesn’t talk much about his stint with Red Bull in front of the media. However, he did not hold back from rebuking Red Bull Racing during a recent media appearance.
Checo’s arrival to the Bulls was a legendary moment for the team. His antics with Racing Point made him an instant favorite with the Bulls. At one point, Sergio Perez was the ideal driver for the Red Bull Racing seat beside Max Verstappen. Come 2023, Checo was unable to bring in results similar to Verstappen. After a long season of controversy and blaming, Red Bull Racing and Checo parted ways in 2024.
In a Spanish podcast with Le Mans winner Memo Rojas, Perez said that the team put unnecessary pressure on him. He doesn’t want an apology from Red Bull Racing for what they did to him but he believes that team dug their own grave.
“I know, deep down, they regret it. And I know that from a very reliable source. Still, what can you do? You move on. It’s tough. I have very good friends there, and people might think I take pleasure in what happened, but no.”

Additionally, Perez says that Red Bull fell apart once Adrian Newey left the team. He went to claim that both him and Max Verstappen complained to the team regarding the direction of their car development. Red Bull went forward with it either way and Perez was the one who struggled the worst due to the car.
Sergio Perez does regret the fact that Red Bull Racing did not protect him from the media. Even though he had a new contract, there were multiple rumors regarding his future. Earlier on, Perez had issued a warning to the Bulls about a new driver being unable to work with the car due to lack of experience. It seems that his words came eerily true for the team in 2025. Nevertheless, if Perez’s returns to racing, it will be a huge blow to Red Bull’s rather rushed decisions.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
