Robert Lewandowski Injury Update: Out of El Clasico? How Long Will Barcelona be Without Their Star Striker?

Moumita Dutta

Barcelona have been dealt another major injury blow as the international break is nearing its end and club football is set to restart. This time, it’s striker Robert Lewandowski who sustained a hamstring injury while on international duty with Poland.

The 37-year-old scored in Poland’s 2-0 win over Lithuania during the World Cup qualifiers. Following that match, he complained of discomfort in his left thigh. After returning to Barcelona’s training facility at Ciutat Esportiva, the forward underwent medical tests.

That confirmed a muscle tear in the biceps femoris of his left leg. Barcelona released an official statement saying: “Robert Lewandowski has suffered a muscle tear in the biceps femoris of his left thigh. His recovery time will depend on how the injury evolves.”

This marks yet another setback for Hansi Flick’s side. They are already without several key players like Gavi, Raphinha, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Initially, concerns were downplayed after Poland’s match.

However, now, the star striker’s condition appears more serious than how it initially appeared. Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo reported that he could be out for up to four to six weeks. However, no official recovery timeline has been confirmed by the club yet.

How Long Will Barcelona be Without the Striker?

Barcelona may not have announced a specific return date, but early estimates suggest that Lewandowski is unlikely to recover in time for the El Clasico against Real Madrid on October 26. The Polish forward will certainly miss the La Liga tie against Girona this weekend.

He will also miss their Champions League clash against Olympiakos next Tuesday. Should his absence stretch to six weeks, Lewandowski could also miss fixtures against Elche, Club Brugge, and Celta Vigo, depending on how quickly he responds to treatment.

The setback comes at a crucial time for the Catalan giants. They are chasing Real Madrid in the La Liga title race. Lewandowski still remains a central figure in Barcelona’s attack. Especially with almost their entire forward line out with injury, Lewandowski’s absence will be felt worse.
