Barcelona’s injury concerns have worsened after forward Ferran Torres withdrew from Spain’s squad with a muscle problem. The injury was confirmed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Tuesday. The setback arrives at a crucial moment for Hansi Flick’s side.
They are already without several key players ahead of the season’s first El Clasico against Real Madrid on October 26. Torres recently earned his 50th international cap in Spain’s 2-0 win over Georgia. He completed the full match before he began feeling discomfort.

The RFEF later released an official statement confirming the diagnosis of ‘muscle overload with no associated anatomical injury’. They also noted that he was withdrawn ‘in keeping with the policy of taking no risks and prioritizing the player’s health’.
Barcelona’s medical staff have been fully briefed on the findings. Club sources later revealed that tests identified the overload in the hamstring muscles of Torres’ left leg. The problem is not deemed a major injury. Even so, he has been placed on a treatment plan and will undergo a short recovery period under supervision.

In a statement of their own, Barcelona later confirmed that ‘the player is not sidelined and will follow a specific treatment plan’. It means that they will take a cautious approach rather than be immediately alarmed. The timing of Torres’ issue could hardly be worse.
Several key players, like Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez, and Gavi are already out. Hence, Flick’s attacking options are increasingly limited. Torres had rediscovered his form this season. He has contributed six goal involvements in 10 La Liga appearances. He emerged as a vital source of creativity from the flanks.

His absence, whether temporary or not, poses a significant tactical challenge for the coach. Now he must balance workload and rotation before the pivotal clash with Madrid. Meanwhile, rivals Real Madrid are dealing with their own concerns. Dani Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold are both nursing injuries.
Both clubs are expected to enter El Clasico with stretched squads. It makes what is already one of football’s most unpredictable rivalries, more intense. In this situation, Barcelona will hope Torres’ setback proves minor. Yet the timing could still reshape preparations for one of the important games of the season.
