The mixed martial arts world was left reeling, when UFC CEO Dana White announced that Jon Jones, widely regarded as the best MMA and UFC fighter of all time, had retired at the ago of 37. The news, delivered nonchalantly during a press conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, ended months of speculation about whether Jones would face interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall in a title unification bout. Jones later confirmed the decision to retire on social media, citing “a lot of reflection” the catalyst for his exit, leaving fans stunned and the heavyweight division in a new era with Aspinall as the undisputed champion.

The saga between Jones and Aspinall had been a roller coaster of anticipation and frustration. Since Aspinall claimed the interim belt in November 2023 by knocking out Sergei Pavlovich, fans yelled for a showdown with Jones, who won the heavyweight title in 2023 against Ciryl Gane and defended it against Stipe Miocic in 2024. Jones, however, repeatedly downplayed the match, claiming a win over Aspinall would do little for his legacy. This caused accusations of “ducking” the younger, dynamic fighter in his prime. Moicano’s Savage Mockery

UFC Lightweight Renato Moicano, known for his unfiltered takes, didn’t miss the chance to troll Jones. On his Show Me The Money podcast’s X account, Moicano’s team posted an edited version of Jones’ UFC resume cheekily adding a “loss” to Tom Aspinall via “fear.” The post, dripping with sarcasm, labeled Jones a “duck in disguise” igniting debates about his refusal to fight Aspinall. Moicano, who previously compared Jones’ tactics to Conor McGregor delays with Michael Chandler, argued Jones was stalling to preserve his near-perfect 28-1 record, fearing a loss to new generation heavyweight.

Moicano’s jab at Jones resonated with fans who were frustrated by Jones’ elusive stance, though some defended Jones, citing his unparallel achievements in the sport. The “what if,” will now be forever tagged to Jones vs. Aspinall fight, which the entire world wanted to see but sadly won’t get.
