Season Recap 2024

Red Bull has had a fall from grace after terrorising the entire Formula 1 grid for two years straight. It seems like a deja vu when we connect the dots. One of their drivers becomes a four-time world champion consistently dominating the other racers. Their other driver fails to keep up with the dominant driver and gets sidelined. The team loses their flair for the upcoming seasons and hires a young rookie. Red Bull Racing have also lost one of their game changers- Adrian Newey. Max Verstappen has been consistently carrying their ship forward single-handedly for the past few seasons. The Bull’s weakness was exposed spectacularly in the previous season. As soon as their cars weren’t rocket-ships anymore. Red Bull was no longer winning the constructors championship. Red Bull could not confide in their second driver anymore and had to replace him for the 2025 season.

History

Red Bull Racing was originally founded as Jaguar TCS Racing, having debuted in Formula 1 in 1997. It wasn’t until 2004 that the energy drink company took over the team and decided to compete under British license. Their owner, Dietrich Mateschitz, was unable to commit Gerhard Berger to join their cause and for the initial years Red Bull seemed like a lost cause. However, in 2005, Adrian Newey (who was already a multiple championship winning engineer) joined the team. His initial years with the team were not spectacular and the team had only two podium finishes to their name until the 2008 season. To make matters worse, the Red Bull “B” team became the first Red Bull owned team to win a race in Formula 1 behind the hands of the fierce Sebastian Vettel. Vettel joined the team for the 2009 season and for the first time Red Bull Racing was fighting for wins and championship. They had the magical breakthrough in 2010 with Sebastian Vettel winning his first championship amidst an intense rivalry with Mark Webber. Vettel went on to claim three more championships consecutively with the team until the 2013 season.

Predictions for 2025

As mentioned earlier, Red Bull seems to be retracing steps from their history but without the expertise of Adrian Newey. They have been under heat for their choice of a second driver. While there are no doubts about the talent Liam Lawson brings with himself, there is no mistaking the fact that Red Bull has not treated their junior drivers fairly for the past few years. Liam Lawson needs to keep up with the undoubtedly fast Max Verstappen if he needs to save his seat. But the decision ultimately remains in Red Bull’s hands if they want to have a consistent second driver. If the Bulls remain adamant on their decisions, it won’t be long before the Formula 1 field is filled with ruined drivers from their junior programme.

Max Verstappen

NameMax Emilian Verstappen
BirthplaceHasselt, Flanders, Belgium
Birthdate30 September 1997

Max Verstappen has established himself as one of the most formidable drivers of the 2025 Formula 1 grid. The Dutchman has been racing with ultimate precision for the past few years turning the tarmac into his playground. The 2022 and 2023 seasons witnessed something that was more than a miracle. Max Verstappen broke a new record in almost every race during this period. In the 2024 season, he found himself alone in the championship battle. However, Verstappen valiantly dragged himself through the chaos to win the championship ahead of the faster McLarens. Max Verstappen has been doubted at every front of his career and every time he has proved the critics wrong. In the 2025 season, Verstappen will have to brace himself for an intense battle if he wants to defend his championship title.

Liam Lawson

NameLiam Lawson
BirthplaceHastings, New Zealand
Birthdate11 February 2002

Liam Lawson is going to begin his first full-time season in Formula 1 with a frighteningly fast teammate. Lawson has been familiarised with the Formula 1 grid as a replacement driver for Red Bull’s junior team. Although, it will be his first time driving for a championship winning team. Liam Lawson has proved himself fast enough to deserve the seat but so did the others before him. Lawson will have to be extra careful to match efforts with Max Verstappen if he wants to save his career from getting permanently relegated as a second driver. Liam Lawson has achieved a lot of success in the junior series previously. He spent the 2023 season competing in the Super Formula series in Japan and was the runner up in the championship. Liam Lawson is among the most popular rookies of the Formula 1 2025 season.
