New York Bolsters Playoff Hopes While Colorado Gears Up for a Deep Run
The New York Rangers and Colorado Avalanche pulled off a major trade as the NHL deadline looms, with Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey heading to Colorado in exchange for Juuso Parssinen, Calvin de Haan, and two draft picks. The deal signals New York’s attempt to stay in the playoff race while Colorado continues strengthening its roster for a deep postseason run.
As part of the trade, the Rangers will retain 50% of Lindgren’s $4.5 million cap hit, making it easier for Colorado to absorb his contract. The second-round pick involved in the deal will be the better of Carolina’s or New York’s, while the fourth-round selection will be the better of Colorado’s or Vancouver’s.

For the Rangers, this move brings in Parssinen, a 24-year-old forward they’ve long pursued, and de Haan, a veteran defenseman with over 600 NHL games. With Adam Fox still recovering from injury, de Haan adds depth to New York’s blue line. Though the team will miss Lindgren’s leadership, they were unlikely to re-sign him this summer and decided to get value in return.

The Avalanche, on the other hand, continue their aggressive approach after parting ways with Mikko Rantanen. Lindgren will bolster Colorado’s defense, while Vesey adds depth to their forward group. As both teams make crucial moves, the playoff race is heating up, and more trades could be on the horizon before the deadline.
