The Czech player is a right-shot defenseman who played 13 games for the HC Oceláři Třinec in the Czech Extraliga (ELH), which is the highest level of ice hockey league in the Czech Republic.

In 2024, Mrtka was drafted by the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he played 43 games in which he earned points, including 3 goals.

Radim Mrtka Strengths

Despite being a tall player, Mrtka is able to cover good ground with his long range as well as his mobility on ice. Mrtka is excellent at closing down the gaps, especially in the neutral zone, and is effective in his side-to-side movement as well.

As far as his skating is concerned, he has a good amount of straight-line speed that comes with his long strides. One of his main strengths lies in his hockey IQ, knowing exactly when to stay back or when to go forward. He is generally a step ahead of the play and is rarely left playing catch-up. Decision making with and without the puck is also a strong point of his game; he is generally calm and composed, leading to good decisions.

Radim Mrtka Weaknesses

Looking at some of Mrtka’s weaknesses, some things that stand out are his lack of consistent passes. He plays a calculated and safe game, with limited dynamism, which can be a good thing at times, but it also limits his playmaking.

Mrtka is a good mover on the ice in spite of his size, but he is not an explosive skater. Building up momentum takes some time, even though his long strides help him overcome that.

One more area he needs to work on is his contribution on offense. When in the offensive zone, he tends to play a safe game that lacks creativity. He is effective in finding his teammates, but creating chances is his weak spot.
