John Cena’s turning heel has been the talk of the town ever since. He defeated Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania to become the 17th-time World Champion. His vows to ruin wrestling were met with an RKO, which revived the 25-year-long rivalry. John Cena and Randy Orton fought each other at Backlash 2025, and John Cena retained the title courtesy of R-Truth and his new finisher. Their match featured 16 finishers.

For the first time in their 25-year-long rivalry, John Cena was a heel and Randy Orton was a face. Randy Orton dominated the match, countering John Cena’s moves and performing Cena’s signature move, the Attitude Adjustment, on him twice, including sending him through a table. He would have landed the Punt kick and won the match if R-Truth had stopped Randy Orton.
