Penguins Trade Anthony Beauvillier to Capitals for 2025 Second-Round Pick

Washington adds scoring depth with Anthony Beauvillier as they push for the top seed, while Pittsburgh secures a future asset in the trade.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have sent veteran forward Anthony Beauvillier to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2025 second-round draft pick. This move strengthens Washington’s forward depth as they continue their push for the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Beauvillier, 27, has made the most of his opportunities this season, stepping up amid Pittsburgh’s injury struggles. By the time the NHL took a break for the 4 Nations Face-Off in February, he had already netted 12 goals and 18 points—an impressive improvement compared to last season.

His journey has been anything but stable over the past year. A first-round Islanders pick in 2015, Beauvillier played for three teams in 2023-24—Chicago, Vancouver, and Nashville—but managed just five goals across all stints. Now, he joins the Capitals on an expiring one-year contract with a manageable $1.25 million cap hit, making this a low-risk move for Washington.

With the Capitals leading the Metropolitan Division for most of the season and holding an Eastern Conference-best 88 points heading into Friday’s action, adding Beauvillier gives them an extra scoring option as they gear up for a deep playoff run. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh gains a valuable future asset in their ongoing effort to retool their roster.

To my readers: Hockey is more than just a game—it’s the highs, the heartbreaks, and the moments that make us jump off our seats. So, keep cheering, keep debating, and never stop loving the madness of the sport!
