On Saturday, 3/29, the Oklahoma City Thunder (61-12) will host the Indiana Pacers(43-30) in an inter-conference Regular-Season match-up. The Thunder reign supreme at the top of the West, while the Pacers are fighting hard at fourth place in the East. Will the gutsy Pacers have any answer for the most brutal squad in the league? Read through the preview, total predictions, and player props here.
Thunder: Too hot to handle
The Oklahoma City Thunder will march into this battle after a massive 21-point win against the Memphis Grizzlies as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander carved out a 37-point masterpiece. It was their seventh straight win. The Thunder has lost two in a row just once this season(Back in mid-November), and they are on course to seize one of the best records this decade. Their offense has improved further since February.
The high-flying team has put up 124.2 points per game(1st) in March, conceding just 109.6(5th). It is almost 3 PPG above their season average of 106.9(1st), but the offense has compensated for it(+4.3 PPG improvement over season average). The squad looks like the favorite for the 2025 NBA championship because they have flexible lineups, which can soak injuries to key players.
Expected Starting Lineup
PG: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander | SG: Luguentz Dort | SF: Jalen Williams | PF: Chet Holmgren| C: Isaiah Hartenstein
Key Injuries/Updates: The status of Aaron Wiggins, Jaylin Williams, and Alex Caruso is UNCLEAR.
Pacers: A formidable foe
The Indiana Pacers come into this game after a thumping 53-point win against the Washington Wizards as Tyrese Haliburton put up a 29-point masterclass. It was their sixth win in seven games, and it could have been seven in seven had they not allowed a buzzer-beating tip-in by LeBron James. Indiana’s guard depth is enviable, and lately, Haliburton has been balling, improving their prospects as we go deep into the season.
The Pacers have scored 120.5 PPG(6th) in March on 30.7 assists per game(1st), speaking volumes about their offensive prowess for the last couple of years. Their perimeter defense has been very impressive this month as they have given up just 12.1 three-pointers per game(3rd), allowing just 33.8%(5th). The Indiana train is well on track to repeat the heroics of the 2024 East Finals run in a fragile East.
Expected Starting Lineup
PG: Tyrese Haliburton | SG: Andrew Nembhard | SF: Aaron Nesmith | PF: Pascal Siakam | C: Myles Turner
Key Injuries/Updates: Isaiah Jackson can be OUT long-term
Both teams are maestro for going past 120 points and have done so at a regular pace throughout the season. The Thunder’s defense is better, but don’t underestimate the Pacers’ grind on contesting jumpers. Thus, we can be in for a mixed affair, and the score can be in the 230s but I doubt it will reach as high as 239 where the bookmakers have attached the identical odds.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to score over 35.5 points: SGA has been the best scorer this season and has tallied a highly impressive 35.5 PPG in March. He had 37 in the last game, and I expect at least a repeat here.
Isaiah Hartenstein to grab over 11.5 rebounds: The Thunder’s big man has collected 9.8 rebounds per game this month, grabbing 11 or more boards in five games. I believe he will grab 12-14 rebounds here.
Tyrese Halibuton to be contained under 16.5 points: The Pacers PG has tallied 20.2 PPG in March, scoring 20+ in three out of the last four games. However, I expect the elite Thunder defense to restrict him below 15 or so.
Myles Turner to hit over 3.5 threes: The Pacers stretch-five is making 2.1 3-PM this month but has made 4 or more in three of the last four games. I believe he will make 4 again.
The Thunder’s defense is one of the most flexible ones in the league, and they can adjust to the Pacers’ uptempo style quite well. Indiana is known for adjusting against tough defenses, too, but I believe they will take a half to get things going. The Thunder crush their opponents by 10+ points, but Pacers may keep it close but may lose by 6-8 points here.
