Thanksgiving Test: Will the ‘10-1’ Lions Break Their Holiday Hex Against the Bears? NFL Thanksgiving 2024 Lions vs. Packers Game

Ashwin Rawat

The Lions have lost the last 7 games on Thanksgiving!

The 10-1 Detroit Lions are arguably the best team in the NFL right now. The NFC North leaders are on an absolute rampage riding a 9-game win streak. They are 6-0 on the road and 4-1 at home. The Thanksgiving festivities tonight will begin with the NFC North game between the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears (4-7).

Despite being a powerhouse on the field, history is not on the side of the Detroit Lions for this game. They are in sublime form, despite losing Aidan Hutchinson to a leg fracture. Jared Goff has been leading from the front, Sonic and Knuckles (the Gibbs-Montgomery Duo) are looking unstoppable, and Amon-Ra St. Brown being available for the home game, Lions will be feeling confident.

But what is the ‘Holiday Hex’ for the Detroit Lions? And why would the ‘10-1’ Lions against the Bears be causing concern amongst the fans? It’s time to take a deep dive in history!

The Lions have lost the last 7 games on Thanksgiving!

This might come as a surprise to many, given the dominance Dan Campbell and co. have established this season. But the Detroit Lions have lost every single Thanksgiving game in the last 7 years! Starting from 2017 till 2023, the Detroit Lions are 0-7 on Thanksgiving Day.

And guess who they have lost the most to in these 7 games? THE CHICAGO BEARS! They have lost to Chicago thrice (2018, 2019 and 2021) in the last 7 years on Thanksgiving. But that can be considered a thing of the past.

People ‘had’ to watch a Detroit Lions game on Thanksgiving. And now, they ‘want’ to! The Lions have come a long way, thanks to the excellent leadership of head coach Dan Campbell and GM Brad Holmes. But they still won’t take the Bears lightly because there is one more ‘holiday hex’ related to this game.
