The Houston Texans’ 2025-26 NFL campaign got off to a very poor start. Falling to 0-3 to start the new season, the Texans were 3-5 by Week 9 before going on a 9-game winning streak to close out the season with a 12-5 record.
During that run of 9 wins, Houston defeated quality teams such as the Bills, Chiefs, and the surging Jaguars and Colts from its own division. Finishing second behind the Jaguars in the AFC South, the Texans’ defense was the talking point of the season.
Led by Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. up front, and by Derek Stingley Jr. in the secondary, Houston allowed just 17.4 points per game, second only to the Seahawks.
Unfortunately, though, the offense lacked any rhythm, and C.J. Stroud had another so-so season after a brilliant rookie campaign in 2023. They finished the season outside the top ten in scoring, but made it to the Divisional round of the playoffs, where they lost a tough game against the Patriots in tricky conditions.
After finishing the previous season with 12 wins and 5 losses, the Houston Texans are favored to win over 9 games in the upcoming 2026-27 NFL season, as per the odds via DraftKings.
The table below shows the Over/Under for the Texans’ total wins in the upcoming regular season.
| Houston Texans 2026-27 regular season wins | |
| Over 9.5 | -120 |
| Under 9.5 | +100 |
Understanding how to bet on NFL games is crucial for maximizing the value of our expert picks and making informed wagers each week.
Heading into the 2026-27 NFL season, the Texans should already be better on offense. On paper at least, they have improved with wideout Tank Dell set for a return after he missed the entire last season due to injury.
Furthermore, the Texans have added former Lions running back David Montgomery to their roster as a replacement for the outgoing Joe Mixon. Montgomery has had an impressive three years in the Motor City despite sharing the backfield with Jahmyr Gibbs and should add plenty of value in the run game.
Defensively, Houston’s roster is in great hands. Danielle Hunter will be back once again after his extension. That means Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. should wreak havoc on the opposition similar to what the duo did last season.
Overall, the Texans look to be in good shape. With respect to the schedule, the Texans have one of the easiest schedules in the league for the upcoming season. Here is a list of their opponents for the 2026-27 NFL season.
Teams such as the Giants, Browns, Commanders, and Titans are all considered to be easier matchups for the Texans for the next season. But, on the flip side, Houston will be facing 6 teams that made the playoffs last season.
Furthermore, the Colts, Ravens, Bengals, and Cowboys are all teams that can surely cause problems for Houston. That being said, if Houston can maintain its defensive domination from last season and add a little more firepower on offense, there is an excellent chance for the Texans to make the playoffs once again in 2027.
Early prediction: Texans 2026-27 regular season record: 11-6

With respect to the health of the players on the Texans’ roster, the main concern is the availability of wide receiver Tank Dell. The 26-year-old missed all of last season after suffering a gruesome knee injury in 2024. While the latest reports suggest Dell is on track to return by training camp, it is still one of the most crucial injuries to monitor for the Texans.
Offensive tackle Trent Brown faced an ankle issue during the divisional-round playoff loss. Although he should be ready for training camp, he has a history of injuries, so Brown is one player Houston will need to monitor.
The other injuries are nothing to worry about, as the players should be back for training camp. Multiple players were suffering from niggling injuries towards the end of the season, but none of the players are questionable for the start of the season in September.
The biggest roster concern for the Houston Texans is the offensive line, which was one of the disappointments of the previous season. Quarterback C.J. Stroud has regressed since his rookie season, and the O-line issues are surely one part of that fall-off.
Sticking with the offense, the second area of concern is the wide receiver room. Despite the expected return of Tank Dell to the roster, getting completely up to speed after such a devastating knee injury could take some time. Nico Collins remains the main weapon for Stroud, but another addition at receiver would be ideal.
The defensive side of the ball is pretty much in place for the Texans. Last season, Houston was a defensive juggernaut, but additional depth on the edge could be useful. Danielle Hunter has just been extended, and he and Will Anderson Jr. are two of the best in the league at their positions, but adding a depth piece would not hurt.
Currently, the Houston Texans have a total of 8 draft picks for the upcoming 2026 NFL draft. Those 8 picks include one in the first round, followed by 2 in the second round. However, the Texans’ first-round selection will be the number 28 overall pick.
Finding a top-quality offensive lineman at pick 28 may be a tough ask, and if the Texans wish, they may look to move up in the draft. Irrespective of what Houston decides, the overall draft may not have much impact on their season.
Overall, the Texans have a top roster in place, and while the rookies can add certain value to the team, Houston has a decent set of core players to rely on for the 2026-27 NFL season.
