On Monday, 03/17, the New York Knicks (42-24) will host the Miami Heat (29-38) in an Eastern Conference Regular-Season match-up. The Knicks have a firm hold on the third spot in the East, while the Heat have slipped to the 9th place in the East. Can the battered Knicks take care of business against the down-in-the-dumps Heat? Read about the preview, total predictions, and player props here.
Knicks: Exhausted but fighting
The New York Knicks will come into this match-up after a heartbreaking 3-point loss against the Golden State Warriors, as Karl-Anthony Towns had a gutsy 29-point, 12-rebound performance. It broke a two-game winning streak and the loaded team has now lost four of their last six games. They have been playing without Jalen Brunson since the last four games, worsening their woes. However, KAT has kept them afloat on the offensive end without their leading scorer and has decent support from the other starters. Unfortunately, the bench has thinned down as coach Tom Thibodeau has been forced to start Miles McBride due to Brunson’s injury. The Knicks need their lea guard back to become a more balanced unit, but they can’t be underestimated despite their starters logging heavy minutes.
Expected Starting Lineup
SG: Josh Hart | SG: Miles McBride | SF: OG Anunoby | SF: Mikal Bridges | C: Karl-Anthony Towns
Key Injuries/Updates: Jalen Brunson is OUT till the end of March.
Heat: In freefall mode
The Miami Heat will come into this affair after an embarrassing 34-point loss against the Memphis Grizzlies despite a 19-point, 11-rebound effort by Kel’el Ware. This was one of their worst losses this season, as they had their full-strength lineup with Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo, and Andrew Wiggins. They have now lost six in a row, and they are 4-13 since the second week of February. The squad was broken since the beginning of the season because of Jimmy Butler’s standoff with the franchise, and the team became even more vulnerable after trading him. Wiggins brought a strong scoring punch, but overall, they are spiralling at an unprecedented rate despite having some All-Star level players.
Expected Starting Lineup
PG: Tyler Herro | SG: Duncan Ronbinson | SF: Andrew Wiggins | PF/C: Bam Adebayo | C: Kel’el Ware
Key Injuries/Updates: Nikola Jovic may be OUT for the season. The status of Alec Burks is UNCLEAR.
The Heat has struggled massively on the offensive end lately. They have scored 101.1 points per game during their seven-game losing streak, by far the worst performance in the window. Meanwhile, the Knicks have also taken an offensive hit due to the absence of Brunson. Both teams can lock in on defense, thus, we may be in for a low scorer. The total may be in the 200-210 range.
Projected Predictions:
Karl-Anthony Towns to clasp over 14.5 rebounds: KAT has collected 13.1 rebounds per game throughout the season but has tallied under 12 RPG since February. I believe he will surpass his season average here and be in the 14-16 rebounds range.
Miles McBride to score over 14.5 points: The Knicks sharpshooter has put up 14.5 points in the four games without Brunson. I expect him to be a shade over his average tally of four games.
Andrew Wiggins to score Over 18.5 points: The Wing has scored around 18 PPG since arriving to the Heat squad. I expect him to be in the 19-21 range here..
Kel’el Ware to grab over 9.5 rebounds: The Heat rookie center has grabbed 6.5 RPG during the last four games. But I expect him to clean up a bunch of misses and transcend the number, clasping 10-12 rebounds.
Both teams play a hard-nosed brand of basketball but are having some offensive malfunctions. The Knicks finally have the home-court advantage after a grueling 5-game road trip, so they will be keen to take full advantage. But more than that, they will need some careful coaching to fend off exhaustion, considering the load on the starting unit. I expect the Knicks to respond brilliantly after a 2-3 road stretch and take one at home. They can win by 6+ points.
Safe Spread Pick: Knicks -8.5 for +105 at BetMGM
