Jets owner Woody Johnson signals major changes as GM Joe Douglas is let go, paving the way for a full team reconstruction in 2024
The New York Jets will undergo a full reconstruction after the conclusion of the 2024 season. Owner Woody Johnson’s most recent action only further confirmed that fact.
New York axed GM Joe Douglas on Tuesday afternoon according to initial report by Connor Hughes of SNY. The previous executive for the Ravens and Eagles was in the last months of his existing contract with the Jets.
Douglas held the top executive position in New York for a span of six seasons. During that period, he achieved a record of 30-64, which was one of the worst winning percentages among previous executives for the team.
It seemed likely that Joe Douglas would face a challenging situation as early as September. With a 2-3 record, Robert Saleh was let go by New York due to a decision by Douglas, resulting in a 1-5 record for the team under new coaching.

Joe Douglas faced difficulties primarily in locating a top coach to collaborate with who could enhance a potential lineup including Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, and Sauce Gardner.
New York also struggled to solve their quarterback problems, as Zach Wilson only lasted three seasons as the second overall pick and Aaron Rodgers performed even worse than Wilson from BYU.
The Jets’ future in New York is now underway, with Douglas’ firing being the newest step taken by the Johnsons to kickstart their search process.
