Johni Broome
Johni Broome (pronounced JUH-nye; born July 19, 2002) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Philadelphia 76ers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Broome was born and raised in Plant City, Florida, USA. He is a Christian, and his older brother, John Jr., played college football for FIU. James Harden is his favorite NBA player. Broome’s college career began at Morehead State, where he played from 2020 to 2022. During his time with the Eagles, he showed his potential, averaging 13.8 points, 1.9 blocks, and 8.9 rebounds per game in his freshman year (2020-21). He improved significantly in his sophomore season (2021-22), increasing his averages to 16.8 points, an impressive 3.9 blocks, and 10.5 rebounds per game. He shot .571 from the field in his freshman year and .555 in his sophomore year. After his successful stint at Morehead State, Broome transferred to Auburn, where he played from 2022 to 2025. At Auburn, he continued to develop his game, averaging 14.2 points, 2.4 blocks, and 8.4 rebounds in the 2022-23 season, and 16.5 points, 2.2 blocks, and 8.5 rebounds in the 2023-24 season. In his senior year at Auburn (2024-25), he recorded his highest college scoring average with 18.6 points, along with 2.1 blocks and 10.8 rebounds per game. Throughout his career at Auburn, his field goal percentages were .527, .548, and .510, respectively. His field goal percentage across both universities was .539. Broome played in 168 career games, starting 163 of them, and averaged 16.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game in his college career. His free throw percentages ranged from .560 to .636 during his college career. Johni Broome was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft, as the 35th overall pick. This marked his official entry into the professional basketball league. He is 2.08 meters tall and weighs 110 kg, playing as a power forward. Concerns about his lack of wingspan and poor shooting were cited as reasons for him being a late draft pick. However, many analysts believe he has the potential to be a valuable backup center for many years, highlighting his strong defensive skills and excellent scoring instincts in the paint.
