Ben Simmons
Benjamin “Ben” David Simmons (born July 20, 1996) is an Australian professional basketball player for the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for one season with the LSU Tigers before declaring for the NBA draft. Simmons attended Box Hill Senior Secondary College in Melbourne, Australia, before moving to the United States in 2013 to attend Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida. In Montverde, he became a highly coveted prospect, leading his team to three consecutive national championships. He was named a McDonald’s All-American in 2015 and was widely considered the top player in his class. In 2015, Simmons committed to Louisiana State University (LSU) to play college basketball. In his only season at LSU (2015-2016), he averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. Despite his impressive individual statistics, LSU failed to make the NCAA Tournament. After the season, Simmons declared for the NBA draft. Simmons was selected with the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He was expected to make an immediate impact, but a foot injury sidelined him for the entire 2016-2017 season. He made his NBA debut in the 2017-2018 season and quickly established himself as a versatile point guard with exceptional passing and rebounding skills. He was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2018.
