Spain 2025- Max Verstappen Commits a Blunder and Loses Points!

Max Verstappen will regret getting out of the Spanish Grand Prix with a needless penalty to his name

Max Verstappen was starting the Spanish GP from the second row. He immediately took up Lando Norris with a better start. Ad the cars approached turn 1, Verstappen easily got ahead of Lando Norris and settled his Red Bull in second place. Max Verstappen was starting to hope for a potential victory as he started pushing Piastri.

However, the pace difference between his Red Bull and the McLarens caught up to him finally. Norris took away his second place and Verstappen was left pushing for more pace. The Dutch Lion was also on a technically slower strategy compared to others. He had to do a three stop race while others were on a two-stop. The lesser tyre degradation on the McLarens helped them ease into a two-stop strategy.

By the end of the race, Verstappen was keeping healthy lead from the cars behind him in third place. His luck ran out as Kimi Antonelli’s DNF caused a safety car. Max was bolted on with hard tyres while every other driver chose softs.

Even though the other drivers were on used softs, they were much faster Verstappen using hard tyres. He was furious at his team clearly unable to understand their decision. Max was already struggling to bring his tyre up to temperature for the restart.

Charles Leclerc was eyeing Verstappen as the race restart approached. As they racing again, Verstappen tried to get away as quick as possible but his rear snapped. The car went completely sideways and Leclerc siezed the moment to get ahead of him with a much faster tyre. Max was incredibly frustrated as he tried to force Charles off in Turn 1. Even though, Leclerc got away, George Russell ended up going wheel to wheel with Verstappen. The skirmish that took place in turn 1 made Verstappen choose the escape road.

Eventually, Max was asked to give back the position to Russell. But as frustrated as he was, Max did not like race directive and drove into Russell out of spite. Nico Rosberg was completely bewildered at his reaction. He was of the opinion that Max should get black flagged for his aggressive actions endangering Russell’s race.

The stewards immediately struck Verstappen with a 10s second penalty. The Dutchman quickly dropped from 5th to 10th losing out a great deal of points. The entire situation was needlessly escalated by Max Verstappen. He was punishing other drivers for the mistakes of his team. Verstappen is at a clear disadvantage in the world championship now.
