Luka Modric Set To Leave Real Madrid on Saturday After 13 Years With Los Blancos

Luka Modric is preparing to bid an emotional farewell to Real Madrid, with reports confirming that Saturday’s fixture against Real Sociedad is likely to be the Croatian midfielder’s final appearance in a Los Blancos shirt. After 13 years, nearly 600 appearances, and a trophy cabinet full of silverware, one of the most legendary players in Real Madrid’s history is set to move on.

At 38 years old, Modric’s role in the team has significantly reduced this season. Though he featured in 56 matches, his appearances were largely from the bench. Still, his leadership and intelligence remained invaluable and he even contributed four goals and nine assists this season.

Xabi Alonso Wanted Modric to Stay

It was earlier reported that incoming manager Xabi Alonso made a personal request to the Real Madrid hierarchy to renew Luka Modric’s contract. However, according to COPE, the Real Madrid board has decided not to offer a new deal to Modric, choosing instead to move forward with a younger squad.

While Alonso was keen on keeping the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner for at least one more season, the club’s hierarchy opted against renewing his contract, leaving Modric to explore opportunities elsewhere. This decision is especially disappointing for Modric, who wanted to stay at the Bernabeu for one more season as part of his long-term plan to remain competitive ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Croatia.
