The Colombian Star Leaves Liverpool To Join Bayern Munich in a Record Deal.

In another Luis Díaz’s high-profile transfer in this summer transfer window, Luis Diaz has moved to Bayern Munich. The Colombian winger has signed a four-year contract with the Bundesliga giants. The German club will also have a option to extend further it by another year.

If extended, it would keep Diaz in Germany potentially until June 2030. The deal, confirmed after weeks of negotiation, comes with a transfer fee of €75 million including add-ons. This would make him the third most expensive signing in Bayern’s history, behind only Harry Kane and Lucas Hernandez.

Luis Diaz Contract Value and Salary Details

Diaz will earn a gross annual salary of approximately €14 million at Bayern. That translates to roughly €269,000 per week. In net terms, that’s about $10.4 million annually, per figures from beIN SPORTS and Capology. This represents a significant jump of over 66% from his salary at Liverpool.

His new salary has also put him into the top ten earners’ list at Bayern. Over the course of the contract, the total gross value is estimated at €56 million. The mouth-watering salary certainly shows Bayern’s belief in Diaz’s attacking prowess. The Colombian’s playing style is expected to align well with Bayern’s vision of a faster and more aggressive unit.

A Farewell to Liverpool

Diaz departs Anfield having played a crucial role in Liverpool’s 20th league title win last season. He scored 17 goals for the Reds across all competitions. He still had two years remaining on his contract. Even so, the 28-year-old made his desire to leave known last summer.

Initially Liverpool held firm to keep him. However, no parties could find any breakthrough in any separate rounds of the contract renewal talks. In the end, they accepted Bayern’s second bid of €75 million. Liverpool paid an initial €45 million to sign Díaz from Porto in January 2022.

They only triggered €4 million of €15 million in add-ons. Hence, they’ve made an approximate profit of €26 million with this deal. Diaz’s transfer is also the third-biggest sale in the club’s history, behind only Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez. In an emotional Instagram farewell, Díaz wrote:

“Three years and a half that I’ll treasure forever… It would have been the perfect goodbye if we hadn’t lost one of ours in such a tragic way,” referencing the death of teammate Diogo Jota. His heartfelt message shows just how deeply connected he was to Liverpool.
