Liberty are now tied for the fourth-longest winning streak to begin a WNBA season in league history.
New York Liberty continued their dream campaign with a 85-66 victory against the Chicago Sky on Tuesday night. With a 19-point win at home, Liberty extended their winning streak to nine matches and set a franchise record. On the other hand, Chicago Sky dropped their sixth game of the season despite having an impressive second half.
Sabrina Ionescu led all the scorers with 23 points and seven assists. Breanna Stewart added 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. For Sky, Angel Reese dropped a season-high 17 points and 11 rebounds. In her 42nd game, she became the fastest player to reach 30 double-double in the WNBA. 2025 Roland Garros winner, Coco Gauff was also sitting the court-side and later received a gift from Ionescu.

Liberty made a dominating start to the game and scored first 12 points of the game. New York outscored Chicago 26-15 in the opening quarter and stretched their lead to 20 points, one of the biggest first-half lead of the season. Ionescu chipped in 14 points in the first half and Stewart added 13.
Liberty continued their dominant run in the third period and had the biggest lead of 34 points in the midway of the final quarter. New York ended the third quarter on an 11-0 run and scored first six points in the starting of the final quarter. However, the Sky reduced the deficit with a fourth-quarter surge and went on a late 24-9 run to avoid a big loss.

For the first time this season, Chicago outscored a team in the second half but the margin was just one point. Chicago have been outscored by 61 second-half points in their six defeats which draws problem for Angel Reese and Co. Sky committed 22 turnovers and went 6-for-23 in 3-point line.
Kennedy Burke also added 15 points and three 3-pointers off the bench. Nyara Sabally made her first career start in place of Jonquel Jones, who was listed out on the injury report. Sabally had nine points in 15 minutes. For the Sky, Aeriel Adkins was only the 2nd player who reached in double-figure. Courtney Vandersloot, who won the WNBA Championship with Liberty last year, couldn’t face her former team due to a season-ending ACL injury.
New York Liberty are now the ninth team in the WNBA history to make a 9-0 start to the season. They are now tied for the fourth-longest winning streak to begin a WNBA season in league history. In ongoing season, the Minnesota Lynx also had a 9-0 start. Both teams played the WNBA Finals last year. If they win four more games, they will break the record for best winning streak in the season.
