Lamar Jackson surpasses Vick’s QB rushing record in Texans win
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson cemented his place in NFL history during a dominant Christmas Day victory against the Houston Texans. Jackson broke Michael Vick’s long-standing record for most rushing yards by a quarterback, a milestone that highlights his dual-threat capabilities.
Jackson surpassed Vick’s 6,109 career rushing yards with a six-yard run in the third quarter. That play gave him 6,110 career yards in just 102 games, 41 fewer than it took Vick to set the record. Jackson’s achievement came during a game where he also threw two touchdown passes and rushed for an electrifying 48-yard score.

“It feels unreal, to be honest with you,” Jackson said. “Michael Vick is one of my favorite players. That’s just dope.”
Coach John Harbaugh praised Jackson’s growth and work ethic:
“Sometimes I just shake my head and say: ‘That was a really great play.’ I’m proud of him not just for his plays, but for everything he’s overcome.”
Jackson’s record-breaking performance powered the Ravens to a 31-2 win. He rushed for 87 yards on just four carries, including the 48-yard touchdown where he hit a career-high speed of 21.25 mph.
“For real? I was jogging,” Jackson said when informed about his speed.
This season, Jackson has run less frequently, averaging 8.4 attempts per game, the lowest of his career. However, his efficiency remains unmatched. His 39 touchdown passes this season—a Ravens franchise record—solidify his case for another MVP award.
Michael Vick, who set the record in 2011, held the title for 13 years. Vick took 143 games to achieve his total. Jackson’s pace, reaching the milestone in seven seasons, underscores his exceptional talent.

“I’ve never seen someone run the ball like Lamar at quarterback—or honestly any other position,” said offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley.
Despite Jackson’s achievements, he stayed focused on the game. During Beyoncé’s halftime performance, Jackson remained in the locker room preparing for the second half. “I was locked in,” he said.

I write about sports because, well, it brings in the big bucks! I’m not some lifelong analyst or stats guru, truth being told, you’ve probably never heard of me!—I just know how to research, write, and make things sound good. That’s the job!
Got into sports media the same way most people do: by (fortunate) accident. Started with SEO writing, took on a few sports gigs, and now here we are! I cover games, trades, player drama—whatever needs words.
Favorite part? The chaos. One day it’s a blockbuster trade, the next it’s a goat running onto the field. Never boring.
