LAFC push for Son Heung-min in major MLS statement move

Los Angeles FC are actively working on a sensational deal to bring Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min to Major League Soccer this summer. According to The Athletic, the South Korean forward is no longer seen as a guaranteed starter under new Spurs manager Thomas Frank, and with just one year left on his contract, LAFC see an opportunity to make a marquee signing ahead of the 2026 World Cup in North America.

Son, 33, is entering the final phase of his career but remains a global superstar with elite output. A move to the United States would guarantee him playing time in a crucial pre-World Cup year, and offer LAFC a rare chance to sign a truly world-renowned figure. The winger’s contract with Spurs expires in 2026, but this summer is likely the final window the London club can command a fee.

His current market value of €20 million makes him one of the most valuable assets in MLS history should the deal go through — only LA Galaxy’s Riqui Puig is currently rated as high. The move would not be without competition, though, as Inter Miami are closing in on Rodrigo De Paul, valued at €25m, from Atlético Madrid.

Son would instantly become one of the most high-profile players in MLS history, not just for his footballing pedigree but for his massive influence across Asia. The city of Los Angeles, home to over 320,000 ethnic Koreans, provides the perfect cultural and commercial fit for the South Korean icon.
