Canucks: After a rough 5-1 defeat to Boston on Saturday, Coach Rick Tocchet lambasted his team, stating that four or five players were “having trouble getting emotionally involved.” His squad countered with a tough game versus the Avalanche, successfully killing four penalties, blocking 18 shots, and accumulating 30 hits.
Avalanche: Being limited to just one goal was an unusual occurrence for a Colorado squad that arrived with four victories in its previous five matches. The Avalanche had scored 18 goals while allowing 9 against their opponents during that period.
Sherwood extended Vancouver’s advantage with a short-handed goal at 3:56 remaining in the second period. He snatched a puck from Nathan MacKinnon close to the benches and raced down the ice, then lifted a shot over Blackwood’s reaching glove to make it 2-0. Cheers of “Kie-fer Sher-wood!” echoed throughout the arena in reply.
Colorado failed to score on four power-play chances, bringing their total to 1 for 19 in the past seven games. The Avalanche will play in San Jose on Thursday, while the Canucks will be in Utah on Wednesday to start a two-game journey.

The Vancouver Canucks delivered a remarkable display against the Colorado Avalanche, achieving a flawless 4-for-4 success on penalty kills during the game. A key moment occurred in the third period, as the Canucks held a 2-0 advantage following Tyler Myers’ interference penalty against Nathan MacKinnon. The penalty kill effectively extinguished the Avalanche’s prime chance to regain momentum in the game.
Kiefer Sherwood, who had a fantastic night, netted a shorthanded goal late in the second period to bring the score to 2-0, a goal that ultimately became the game-winner. His performance rounded out a well-rounded game for Vancouver, which, although being outshot 31-25, engaged in a physical approach, outhitting Colorado 30-19, surpassing in blocked shots (18-8), and excelling in the faceoff circle.
The Vancouver Canucks beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 last night with Kiefer Sherwood scoring all three goals for his first career hatty, a natural to boot.

While Elias Pettersson received the honor of being the game’s third star, Sherwood’s hat trick captured the spotlight. His empty-net score in the closing moments secured the win and highlighted his significance in the lack of goals from the top six forwards. Sherwood’s teammates, Pius Suter and Danton Heinen, were instrumental as well, contributing to his initial goal in the first period.
Thatcher Demko recorded 30 saves to secure the victory in his first impressive performance of the season. Following a rocky beginning to the year, Demko excelled against the Avalanche, staving them off and clinching the win for Vancouver.
As they look to the future, the Canucks will seek to capitalize on this momentum when they take on the Utah Hockey Club on Tuesday evening at the Delta Center, aiming to maintain their solid performance.
