There were rumours of him in a potential UFC 317 title fight against the reigning champion Dricus Du Plessis.Du Plessis has already defended his belt twice since claiming it from Sean Strickland at UFC 297. The South African champion recently handled Strickland in their rematch and previously submitted Adesanya at UFC 305. Du Plessis and Chimaev have already exchanged words on social media, setting the stage for what could be an explosive championship showdown.

But the path isn’t clear-cut for Chimaev. Nassourdine Imavov, currently ranked #1 in the division, has put together an impressive four-fight win streak capped by knocking out Adesanya in February. This gives him a strong case for the next title shot. However, others rumors suggest that Imavov could be fighting Caio Borralho next in a title eliminator fight.

This infrequent schedule has likely slowed his championship aspirations despite his perfect record. If his “good news” hint is indeed about an upcoming fight announcement, it would mark a welcome change to see him compete in the first half of 2025!
