Jon Jones has faced some of the toughest fighters on the planet inside the octagon. The former UFC heavyweight champion has overcome countless challenges throughout his controversial yet legendary career. But nothing prepares anyone for losing a brother, especially one as close as Arthur Jones. The NFL veteran passed away tragically at his home in Syracuse, New York.
Arthur Jones, who played defensive lineman in the NFL, had a pre-existing heart condition that ultimately took his life. His pacemaker activated around 11 a.m, alerting his doctor and triggering an emergency response. Unfortunately, responders arrived too late, and Arthur was pronounced dead at his Syracuse home. The Baltimore Ravens confirmed his passing, sending shockwaves through both the football and MMA communities. Jon stayed silent initially but later shared funeral details on social media, honoring his brother’s memory with a ceremony scheduled in Binghamton, New York.
Despite dealing with devastating grief, Jon Jones showed up for his nephew when it mattered most. Fifteen year old Arthur Jones IV follows in his father’s footsteps as a sophomore defensive lineman for Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse. The young athlete recently competed in a crucial game against Shaker High School, and his uncle Jon was there in the stands supporting him. CBA secured a 28-21 victory, and Jones couldn’t have been prouder of his nephew’s performance and dedication.
After the game, Jon posted a heartfelt message on his Instagram story showing himself leaning over the bleachers to shake his nephew’s hand. The image captured a beautiful moment between uncle and nephew during an incredibly difficult time for their family. Jones wrote a congratulatory message to Arthur IV and the entire team, wishing them the best as they chase the state championship.
“Congratulations to my nephew Arthur Ⅳ and the team! Wishing y’all the best as you chase that state championship! Stay focused, stay humble, and finish strong.”
The state championship tournament represents a huge opportunity for Arthur IV and his CBA teammates. The annual postseason event takes place at the JMA Wireless Dome on the Syracuse University campus. This gives high school athletes a chance to compete in a major venue. For Arthur IV, this season carries extra emotional weight after losing his father. Having his Uncle and former UFC champion Jon Jones there supporting him and offering guidance probably means more than any trophy ever could!
