A Goalkeeper’s Rise and Barcelona’s Battle to Secure His Place in La Liga
FC Barcelona signed Goalkeeper Joan Garcia from Espanyol at a price of €25 million this summer. Trying to replace the veteran’s Andre Ter Stegen and Schezsny, Hansi Flick has selected Garcia to possibly be their first-choice goalkeeper in the future.
After winning the Spanish treble, FC Barcelona are looking to add depth required for the European stages. Garcia who has proven himself during his time with Espanyol is headed to Camp Nou as some uncertainty on his registration still stands.

Joan Garcia, the 24-year-old goalkeeper who recently transferred from Espanyol to Barcelona, is set to see a significant salary increase. At Espanyol, Garcia earned around €400,000 net annually.
Upon joining Barcelona, his salary is expected to jump to approximately €3 million net per season, with some reports suggesting a gross salary of €6 million per year. This tenfold increase reflects Barcelona’s high expectations for Garcia, who is poised to become their first-choice goalkeeper for the 2025-26 season.
FC Barcelona’s financial struggles has kept Garcia’s registration with Lal Liga uncertain. The League’s strict salary cap rules and president Javier Tebas’ statement about Barca’s salary limit has indicated that the Blaugrana’s might have to take extra steps to register Garcia.
FC Barcelona had arguably one of their bet seasons in the past decade. Hansi Flick in his first season impressing the Camp Nou is aiming for some fresh faces in and around goal. Identifying Garcia as their first recruitment, Flick is aiming to help strengthening the depth of the squad.
Garcia facing challenges to get register will have to wait on the verdict before making an appearance. While the club is leveraging player sales, a potential Camp Nou VIP seats lease, and other financial strategies to secure compliance, uncertainties remain due to La Liga’s oversight and past registration issues.
Garcia’s firm stance against delays adds pressure, but Barcelona’s assurances and proactive measures suggest a strong commitment to making his integration seamless.
