Jermall Charlo breaks silence on their potential fight after Caleb Plant's upset loss against Armando Resendiz!

Jermall Charlo vs Caleb Plant had all the ingredients for fireworks. Charlo, the former WBC middleweight champion, had been looking to make his mark at super middleweight after moving up in weight. The fight was practically a done deal heading into May 31st’s PBC card. Plant was supposed to handle Armando Resendiz easily, while Charlo was set to take care of business against Thomas LaManna in the co-main event. The boxing world was already salivating at the prospect of these two skilled fighters settling their differences in the ring. Everything seemed to be falling into place perfectly until it wasn’t.

Jermall Charlo did exactly what he was supposed to do on fight night. He looked sharp, focused, and ready for bigger challenges ahead. LaManna, while game and determined, was clearly outclassed from the opening bell. Charlo’s power and boxing IQ were on full display as he systematically broke down his opponent. The end came in the sixth round when Charlo landed a devastating combination that forced the referee to step in and stop the fight. It was the kind of performance that builds momentum and gets fans excited for what’s next.

Plant’s performance told a completely different story in the main event. The former IBF champion looked sluggish and unprepared. Resendiz, who was supposed to be a stepping stone, came to fight and refused to play the role of willing victim. When Resendiz started walking him down and landing heavy shots, Plant resorted to excessive clinching just to survive. The final scorecards reflected what everyone watching already knew. This was a major upset that nobody saw coming. Caleb Plant had lost via Split decision.

Jermall Charlo Still Interested In Fighting Caleb Plant

Charlo made one thing crystal clear: he still wants his fight against Plant. Charlo emphasized that he wants this fight regardless of whether Plant has a belt or not. He even suggested the fans would flock to see this fight.

“[Caleb Plant] still deserves a fight with me and I still deserve a fight with him. I think all the fans in the world still will tune in to a fight with Jermall Charlo and Caleb Plant.”

The reality however, is that both fighters now face very different paths forward. Charlo proved he’s ready for elite competition with his dominant stoppage victory. Meanwhile Plant needs to rebuild his confidence and reputation after such a surprising setback. The superfight between them will likely happen eventually, but it might take longer than anyone expected.
