Jenson Button to Step Down From Full-Time Racing in 2026!

Rohan Singh

Jenson Button will stop racing full-time after the 2025 season

Jenson Button is a well known motorsports personality. He is currently racing full-time in the World Endurance Championship and working as an analyst for Sky Sports F1. Button was previously a Formula 1 driver. He won the championship in 2009 for Brawn GP. In his career in F1, Button has won 15 Formula 1 races. Jenson Button took his leave from Formula 1 after the 2016 season.

In his 17 year long career in Formula 1, Button drove multiple teams. These include midfield competitors like Williams and BAR Honda. And top teams like, McLaren and Brawn GP. After his exit from Formula 1, Button has been active in other motorsport series like Sportscar and Endurance. Jenson Button also won the 2018 Super GT championship with Team Kunimitsu. Although, after his exploits in multiple forms of motorsports, Jenson Button is finally going to stop full-time racing.

Jenson Button is Unable to Race Full-Time Due to Busy Schedule

For the past couple of years, Button has been racing in WEC for Hertz Team Jota. He is 8th in the driver’s championship with 38 points to his name in the 2025 WEC season in the Hypercar category as of July 2025.

However, he also works as an expert analyst for Sky F1’s tv coverage and Formula 1 races. Additionally, Jenson Button has to take care of his family and two children. The former F1 champion believes that it is the right time to step away from the track full-time. He won’t stop racing completely. Button still wants to race part-time in the WEC series.

“Life has got too busy with so many different things going on – it is a very busy schedule I have. It is about time I start thinking about the future a little bit more, and I want to spend more time with my family. It is unfair as well to the team: I probably don’t have enough time to give to it, especially next year.”

Button also flirted with the idea of a possible return to NASCAR in 2026 for some races. The driver has previously raced in the NASCAR Cup Series part-time for Rick Ware Racing in 2023.
