Williams is under suspension for breaking the performance-enhancing substances policy
According to Eric Woodyard of ESPN, wide receiver Jameson Williams is facing a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s PED policy.
In the 2023 season, the league suspended Williams for six games for violating its gambling policy by placing bets on sports at the Lions’ facility. However, those bets weren’t on NFL games.
The NFL later adjusted its policy, reducing his suspension, and he ultimately missed the first four games of the season.

Williams will now miss this weekend’s game against the Tennessee Titans at home. And an important division match against the Green Bay Packers the following week.
This season, Williams has played a much bigger role, especially after the Lions let wide receiver Josh Reynolds go during the offseason. With Reynolds out, Williams has stepped into the No. 2 receiver spot.
In Williams’ absence, the team will need more from Kalif Raymond and recent addition Tim Patrick, along with Amon-Ra St. Brown, although none of them can stretch the field the way Williams does.
While details about how Williams violated the policy haven’t been fully disclosed, ESPN reported that the suspension is for breaching the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy. Williams is “disappointed” by the suspension, but as he told ESPN, he has “no choice but to take it on the chin.”
“I’m in good spirits just ready to get back with [my] brothers ASAP,” Williams shared with ESPN.
Williams has now been suspended for the second time in his NFL career, currently in his third year. Last season, he served a four-game suspension for breaking the NFL’s gambling policy.

In 2024, Williams has put up 17 receptions, 361 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. He’s currently second on the Lions in receiving yards and has solidified himself as quarterback Jared Goff’s second go-to receiver.
Through Week 6, Detroit is leading the competitive NFC North with a 5-1 record. Now, with Williams suspended, they’ll need to rely more heavily on Amon-Ra St. Brown and tight end Sam LaPorta to maintain their offensive momentum.
The NFL’s Performance Enhancing Drug policy strictly forbids players from using substances like steroids, anabolics, and exogenous testosterone.
The policy has stringent penalties for players caught using banned substances, including steroids, stimulants, or growth hormones purchased online.

It also prohibits coaches, trainers, and agents from providing or encouraging the use of these substances.
The NFL believes that using performance-enhancing drugs undermines the fairness of the game, giving an unfair edge to those who use them.
In recent years, the NFL has implemented random drug testing, with most positive results coming from urine samples.
