American ice hockey player James Hagens is surely one of the top prospects at the 2025 NHL draft, and he could very well be the first one drafted from the country. Most draft analysts and scouts have Hagens in their top 5, while some also have him going in the top 3.

The left-handed shooter is a forward who generally plays in the center position. In the 2024-25 season, Hagens played for the Boston College Eagles in the NCAA Division 1. A penchant for picking up points, Hagens accumulated 37 in 37 games last season.

James Hagens was born on November 3, 2006, in Hauppauge, New York, to Michael and Kristine Hagens. James is one of three children to the happy couple, who also have an older son and a daughter who is the youngest of the lot. Both of Hagens’ parents are primarily school teachers.

Michael Hagens is the father of James Hagens. The senior Hagens is a school teacher who has been teaching on Long Island, New York, for 25 years. He also works on a fishing boat, and the whole family engages in helping the customers with their fishing experiences.

Hagens’ father feels that getting out in the open is a good change for his children, who spend most of the time on the ice focused on their hockey. Speaking of which, it was Hagens Sr. who got his children interested in the sport as he had also played it during his youth.

Every year in the winter, James’ father would build an ice rink in their backyard, where they all would play after school.

Kristine Hagens is the mother of James Hagens. She is a teacher by profession. There is no more information about her professional life. James Hagens’ brother’s name is also Michael Hagens. Michael is the older of the two brothers by about a year, but he plays as a defenseman. Being the older of the two, Michael is the mentor, and James enjoys looking up to him for support.

Since Michael plays defense, it gives James valuable insight, and he is able to learn ways to create chances by taking on his brother. The two have been very competitive from their early years of playing together.

James Hagens’ Sister

James Hagens also has a sister, Emma Hagens. There is no more information about her apart from the fact that she, too, plays hockey and desires to take up the sport at the next level in college.
