Draper and Musetti get ready for a first meeting on clay
The second semi-final at the 2025 Madrid Open will see the 5th-seeded Jack Draper take on the 10th-seeded Lorenzo Musetti. Draper has put together a quality season thus far, recording wins against the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune at Indian Wells on his way to the title, while Musetti also made it to the Monte-Carlo Final.
Draper, who started off the year ranked 15th in the world, has risen all the way to number 6 on the back of his strong performances this year. At Madrid, the Brit, who had a first-round bye, has had an easy outing thus far, having reached the semis without dropping a set.
His third-round clash against Matteo Berrettini was shaping up to be a good one, but the Italian was forced to retire after losing the first set tie-breaker. Otherwise, Draper had easy wins against Tallon Griekspoor in round 2, Tommy Paul in round 4, and Matteo Arnaldi in the quarterfinals.
Musetti, on the other hand, has also not dropped a set and has played some sublime tennis this week. He started the tournament with a comfortable win against Lorenzo Musetti in round 2, following a round 1 bye. He then faced Stefanos Tsitsipas in round 3, winning a tight match 7-5, 7-6(3) to move to the next round, where he defeated Alex de Minaur. In the quarters, he defeated the Canadian Gabriel Diallo.

Draper and Musetti have met three times on tour, with the British coming out on top in all 3 matches. However, all three matches have come on indoor hard courts, and this will be their first-ever meeting on clay.

Looking at their head-to-head, the odds should favor Draper, but the pair have never faced off on clay. Although Draper has an all-court game and does play well on clay, Musetti has been playing exceptionally in Madrid.
Match Prediction: Draper in two sets
Jack Draper: 4/9
Lorenzo Musetti: 7/4
nfl I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
