UFC 315’s main event of the evening features an extremely high profile fight between Jack Della Maddalena and the current welterweight champion, Belal Muhammad. Maddalena hasn’t fought in over a year, but has remained undefeated in the UFC so far, and has not an MMA fight in his career since 2016. He is a highly precise and explosive striker, who took down Gilbert Burns last year, in March, 2024, at UFC 299. The original headliner of UFC 315 was supposed to be between Shavkat Rakhmonov and Belal Muhammad, however, after Rakhmonov announced his injury, he was replaced by Maddalena who is currently ranked 5th in the welterweight division.
While the fight is more or less set to happen between Maddalena and Muhammad, Ian Garry was announced as the official replacement for the fight between the two, if anyone between Maddalena or Muhammad were to back out in the last moment, which has been the case for several other fights as well. Garry recently won the bout between him and Carlos Prates via unanimous decision, and he sounded very ready to fight for the championship, if the opportunity was given. Garry is known for his for and his precision striking ability, and has only lost one fight in his entire MMA career. So if something makes Muhammad pull out of the fight in the last moment, who would win between the Ian Garry and Maddalena. Let’s find out.
🗣️ Ian Garry:

"Next week I'm flying to Canada, I'm the backup for the world title fight. If ANYBODY slips up, you best believe there's a world title coming back home to Dublin, Ireland and Brazil baby." 👀🔥

According to MMA Junkie, Maddalena prepared for both, his headline against Belal Muhammad, and a replacement fighter if things were to go south. Since Ian Garry is the official replacement fighter, Maddalena was asked a question by a reporter about what his thoughts are on him potentially taking on Ian Garry if Belal Muhammad was to pull out of the fight at the last moment, and he said, “Yeah 100% I’ll be comfortable fighting Garry. That’s a fight that’s gonna happen and I’ve mentally prepared myself for that fight.” Maddalena continued, “I reckon I could take him out. He had a good win. This is a dangerous guy. The UFC obviously just, this is their way of thanking him for those tough fights. So you gotta respect that. Not many people do that sort of thing. Step in… So good on him you know… It is what it is but I think me and Belal is on and can’t see anything happening between me and Belal but yeah. If anything changes then no worries.”
So far there have been no changes on the schedule, and both the fighters, Muhammad and Maddalena, are ready to fight each other for the welterweight belt inside the octagon.
